Uxbridge Town AFC - Season 101 Midseason Review

Uxbridge Town could not have asked for a better first half of the season than they got. The Lions currently have a 14-2-3 record which puts them in second in the Premier League, 1 point behind league leaders Queen's Crossing FC.

President Bertrand Jeunechamp was pleased in a recent interview at how well supported the club is. "Our fans may be the best in the league" said Jeunechamp. "We had to add more capacity to the stadium to ensure that everyone who wants to attend matches is able to. Seeing the stadium on match day is always a sight to behold. The team on the pitch is obviously exciting to watch, and everyone in the organization has made my job incredibly straightforward."

Uxbridge has been the class of the league when it comes to goalscoring with 71 goals (1st in the league) so far, 24 goals more than second place Dover FC and Queen's Crossing. The club has remained strong defensively as well, conceding only 16 goals (2nd). The team remains a discipline side this season, allowing only 7 yellow cards (2nd) and only a single red card (T8th).

Manager MacCallum Barry relished the opportunity to be back in title contention. "Being in the middle of a title fight is always exciting" said Barry. "We have had little stumbles here and there, but I do feel like we are showing our abilities consistently. It's going to take a lot to end this season hoisting the trophy, but I believe that everyone here understands that and is prepared to do what it takes to be champions. I for one am looking forward to the second half."

The Lions have a number of individual players having incredible seasons. Striker Gilbert Cadogan has really found his scoring form in his return to England, netting 17 goals so far to put him in a tie for the lead in the race for the golden boot. Teammate and star acquisition Huenu Barragan is just behind with 16 goals, the majority of which were scored from free kicks. Kobe Otsuka's pace has slowed a bit from last season, but his 9 goals put him tied for 13th in the league thus far. Kenyon Paulo Canineu, Mehdi Florentin, and Lyle Maigny have five goals each. Wynward Garnis has ended 7 of his 16 matches this season with a clean sheet.

Uxbridge Town's captain Stephen Mill was very happy with his team's performance thus far. "We are consistently playing some top class football" said Mill during a recent post-training press availability. "We move the ball really well and keep together on our defensive assignments. There is still some gelling to be done with all of the new faces here, but we have been really starting to come together as a team of late. Hopefully, we can keep that going and only continue to get better."

Uxbridge will look to keep their championship ambitions going as they host reigning champions Blackley Town next week.
